At the beginning of the 1940s, where the Russians actually used a one time pad to encrypt various mesages. Unfortunately, the pads that they were using were generated by a human by throwing dice. And so, you know, the human would throw these dice, and write down the results of these throws. And the collected throws would then form the pads that were used for encryption.
